Brothers collide: Ben Johns and Tardio beat Collin Johns and Yang in MD quarterfinals

Kai Tak finally got the brothers’ collision it had been waiting for — and Ben Johns walked off with Gabriel Tardio.

On Friday 23 October at the Hang Seng Bank Hong Kong Slam, top seeds Johns and Tardio beat Collin Johns and Len Yang in the men’s doubles (MD) quarterfinals at Kai Tak Arena / PICKLETOWN. Ben and Gabe advance to the semi-finals; Collin and Len’s doubles run ends in the last eight.

Brothers on opposite sides

The quarterfinal had been circling the draw all week. Collin and Len had already ended Hong Kong’s last home MD pair on Thursday, beating Eunggwon Kim and Hong Kit Wong 11-3, 8-11, 11-5 in the round of 16. Ben and Gabe came in as the top seeds. Friday put Johns opposite Johns — Ben with Gabe, Collin with Len — under the Kai Tak lights.

How it went

Ben and Gabe took the match 11-3, 11-3.

A straight-sets sweep — both games 11-3.
