Home comforts: Wong and Tang push deeper at the Hong Kong Slam

Hong Kit Wong beat doubles partner Eunggwon Kim in the men’s singles round of 32, while Nok Yiu Tang followed a 11-0 opener by knocking out Mihae Kwon — both still alive in multiple draws at Kai Tak.

Hong Kong’s two leading pros are giving the Kai Tak crowd plenty to cheer.

At the Hang Seng Bank Hong Kong Slam — Asia’s first PPA 1500, running 19–25 October with a purse of up to US$1.1 million — Hong Kit Wong (Jack Wong / 黃康傑) and Nok Yiu Tang (Nikita Tang / 鄧諾瑤) have both won through the opening rounds of the main draw and, as of Wednesday’s results feed, are into the last 32 in singles.

Tang: pickles, then Kwon

On Tuesday, Tang opened Women’s Singles against compatriot Kwan Wun Man and won 11-5, 11-0. Later the same day she and South Korea’s Eunggwon Kim swept Mixed Doubles 11-3, 11-0. Two matches, two “pickle” games — and the home crowd noticed.

On Wednesday she was back out in Women’s Singles against Mihae Kwon. According to the PPA scores feed tracked by ThePickleHub (updated 21 October), Tang won 11-9, 11-3 to reach the round of 16.

She remains the No.7 seed in Women’s Doubles with Chao Yi Wang. Mixed Doubles with Kim continues as the draw advances — check the official brackets for the latest.

Local organisers F-Sports / PPA Pickleball HK also highlighted Tang’s multi-event start on main-draw day one.

Wong: three for three, then the awkward one

Wong, Hong Kong’s top-ranked pro and the No.7 seed in Men’s Singles, came through Tuesday in all three events he entered:

  • Men’s Singles — beat qualifier Zida Li 11-9, 11-5
  • Men’s Doubles — with Kim, beat Sam Wu / Changyou Tsai 11-3, 11-0
  • Mixed Doubles — with China’s Lingwei Kong, beat Pei-Yu Lai / Timothy Foo 11-5, 11-6

That set up the awkward Wednesday singles meeting flagged by PPA Tour Asia: Wong vs Kim in the round of 32, then (if both stayed in doubles) back on court together later. Wong won the singles 11-5, 11-5, according to the same results feed.

Who is Wong?

Wong, 28, turned pro in 2025 and sits at world No.21 on the men’s rankings. He finished the inaugural 2025 PPA Tour Asia season as No.1 in Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles (doubles co-No.1 with Kim), including gold at the 2025 Hong Kong Open on home soil.
